My husband and I met on a blind date. Six months later we were engaged; one-and-a-half months later we were married on August 14, 2010! We tied the knot in a tiny ceremony on base with a chaplain we didn’t know–he unknowingly even called my husband by someone else’s name during the ceremony which we got a pretty good laugh out of. We experienced less than one week of wedded bliss before my new hubby left for a three week Annual Training and then deployed to the Middle East for a year. It was definitely a such a whirlwind romance I didn’t have any time to think about what it would be like during the year he was gone. And it was rough. Really rough.
My experience is not that uncommon. Many new army spouses are left to fend for themselves as their soldiers are sent off to war. So, while he was away, I wrote this book. I wanted to help inspire and encourage army wives, army husbands, and army significant others as they made their own unique transition into army life.
My husband is back and we finally had the chance to experience the wedding ceremony of our dreams as we renewed our vows on November 5, 2011 in front of friends and family.
After a year, I think we’re done reintegrating, but now we’re adjusting to life as first time parents! We had a beautiful baby girl in June so now we’re adding on the roles of mom & dad to the mix. Needless to say, each new week is an adventure in the Army lifestyle!
